M
aster Spillmann has over 36 years of martial arts training and 25 years of experience instructing children and
adults. He believes that "in martial arts, like life, you need to set a goal, take action and not give up. Dreams
don't come true by magic. You have to work hard, and martial arts is a way of life in and out of the dojang." This
philosophy has led him to where he is today.
Master Spillmann began practicing martial arts at age four when his parents enrolled him in
Judo. Since then, Master Spillmann has worked hard to attain ranks in Taekwon-Do (7th Dan), Karate (4th Dan), Judo
(2nd Dan), Diato-Ryu Aiki-Jujitsu (1st Dan), Hapkido (5th Dan) and Rocian Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and continues
to practice to further perfect his arts. Master Spillmann is an outstanding demonstrator and holds the record for
breaking 250 concrete blocks in 48 seconds. Even with all the trophies, plaques, media, television and print
coverage he has received, nothing gives Master Spillmann more pleasure than seeing his students excel in their
leadership skills, academics and in life.
Master Spillmann, as the headmaster of the American Taekwondo Centers, has 10 very
important goals: 1) To create a better society through a positive attitude and thinking; 2) to create peace, health,
and harmony through physical and mental discipline; 3) to develop goals into an action philosophy; 4) to build
confidence and self-esteem in all students; 5) to teach people the importance of commitment and never giving up; 6)
to enlighten parents and students about the true leadership benefits of the martial arts; 7) to treat all people
fairly; 8) to teach an effective self-defense system; 9) to further his own martial arts education through continuing
studies to better teach his instructors and students and 10) to assist other masters in the growth of positive
martial arts.
For Master Spillmann, Taekwon-Do is about developing and cultivating a better self and stronger
leader for tomorrow.
